The Biggest Obstacle

What is the biggest obstacle to radical life extension that we face today?  Individual acceptance that we already have the early pieces of this technology poised for exponential growth.  It’s hard to understand what exponential growth means with any technology.  Today there are some very accessible interventions to improve one’s health. Within a decade, the medical options that will be available will be unbelievable.  Improved health is only the start as we start to see expected healthy lifespans increase dramatically.

Change Velocity Today

Make no doubt about it: technology is growing exponentially fast.  This means the rate of change today is dramatically accelerating.  Today, life expectancy at birth is increasing at a velocity of two years every decade.    As information technology and radical life extension become tightly bound, the acceleration will mean that this velocity will start to pick up.   An article that is posted on the SEN’s foundation site shows how life spans have increased both from birth and from age 65 as illustrated in the rightward shift of the life expectancy by age (see figure below).  (see https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2018/10/increasing-life-expectancy-visualized-as-an-advancing-wave-of-late-life-mortality-risk/ )

My Top Ten List

The only thing that will stop you from being healthier is doing nothing – radical youth extension is here today, and it’s affordable.  Here is my top ten list.  Most of the items are already showing positive results from human adoption.  Some things like Fisetin, while in the early stage of research, have so much upside and so little downside that I have already adopted them into my program.   Keep in mind this is my top ten list – you will likely want to customize your own, but in the meantime keep in mind that most of these ingredients are available, affordable, and have links to help you get to the retail site right here.

What’s Your Age?

Today, the gap between a person’s chronological age and biological age provides an accurate indicator of health.  A person with a biological age that is less than the chronological age is more likely to be healthier than a person who has a biological age is much higher than their chronological age. However, as radical youth extension and anti-aging interventions become more effective the notion of chronological age will soon become meaningless. There will be a time when the time since birth won’t mean a lot.  The biological age will become a more reliable measure of how a person acts, looks and feels.

Why Measure Biological Age?

Why measure a person’s biological age? There are two main reasons:

  1. It enables an individual to assess how effective their regime is. You can look at your baseline and then compare how well you are progressing against these clocks without having to wait until you see physical results.  Sometimes results could take months or years.  It is nice to know whether or not what you are doing effective much sooner. For now, we can rely on less expensive but less accurate tests.  Soon the more precise tests will also be accessible.
  2. More important, it provides researchers who are studying the impact of a particular item with an early idea of the results.  Researchers won’t have to follow the study group for decades to find out what is happening to the biological clocks in the shorter term.  In short, the researcher can determine whether the supplement is impacting the biological clock with a much shorter runway than has been possible up until now.

The introduction of accurate biological clocks will mean that the pace of studies will begin accelerating dramatically. This means the results of life extension studies will also start to pour in much quicker than ever before.

Biological Clocks

The biological age today is closely correlated with chronological age so we can use a comparison of the two to deduce how likely a person is to get sick.  In general, the biological clock is a good indicator of how the person feels.  A more youthful clock number means the person feels more like that age.

There are four clocks that we will discuss. The first two are subjective and provide a great inexpensive way for you to see how your program is working. The last two will provide additional assurance that things are working – they are expensive but affordable.

The four clocks we will examine are Quality of Life, The Elastic Skin Test, The Telomere Clock, and the Horvath Clock.

Quality of Life Clock

Your enjoyment of life is essential as both an indicator and in more immediate terms.  As radical youth extension becomes more impactful then the age that you use to describe your quality of life will change less and less.  There are already online tests that you can take to help you make the assessment.  However, I have personally found that an honest and subjective view of what I can do and what I chose to do provides the best indicator.  I say honest because there are people who will fool themselves. If you are shut in because you are sick, then admit it, if only to measure the progress you can make on your personal radical youth extension program.

Mental state is also essential.  Depression often accompanies old age, and so your mood is a significant factor that contributes to your biological age.

Remember, your biological age is your real age.  The chronological age just happened to follow it because we didn’t know how to slow or reverse the biological clock until recently.

Elastic Skin Test Clock

The pinch test is simple enough as described below.

This test assesses your age based on the elasticity of your skin. Firmly press your thumb and index finger on the inner side of the arm, at the crease where you measure the pulse (above the fist), in other words — it is necessary to pinch yourself for 5 seconds as shown. For accurate results, you can use a stopwatch. Next, release the fingers, and then you can determine your biological age by seeing in how many seconds the color of your skin will come back to its original state:
• in 5 seconds – approximately 30 years
• in 8 seconds – approximately 40 years
• in 10 seconds – approximately 50 years
• in 15 seconds – approximately 60 years

Telomere Clock

This clock correlates telomere length to age. As people age, the cells divide more, and if left on their own, the telomeres become shorter.  People with longer telomeres tend to have fewer diseases of aging when compared to others of the same age.

The telomere clock loosely provides an indicator to the number of times a cell has divided and is independent of the next test, the Horvath clock. Paradoxically we know that much of what we call aging occurs when the telomeres are their longest – when a person is in the first phase of their life. Perhaps this change is more related to biological maturity at that point as opposed to what we call age.

Horvath Clock

The Horvath clock measures changes to the epigenome, known as methylation. Recall that epigenetics modifies the expression of DNA.  The Horvath clock looks for markers on a set of genes associated with aging to provide a 0.96 correlation with age. Perhaps one of the best measures of aging, it is of the more recently available and more expensive tests available.

Summary

I believe the ability for researchers to validate the progress when testing substances that potentially reverse age is essential. By using the Horvath clock, they will be able to find substances that have a robust epigenetic effect. While an individual could use these tests to monitor their personal progress and the effect of the program I believe they are a bit expensive.

Every day the cost of using the Telomere and Horvath clocks are coming down.  While they are pricey and available to consumers, the price will soon be affordable.  We will keep you posted.

Long Live Youth

We live in an exciting time where the ability to prolong youth will soon be widely available. The radical extension of youth is just over the horizon. Pharmaceutical companies are already working on commercializing radical life extension. As time progresses, more effective therapies will be available to the public. In the meantime, I would like to share some thoughts on what you can do to prevent losing your life prematurely. This blog will look at the sources of death, and what you can do to avoid them. By avoiding death and living longer, you will be able to take advantage of the future breakthroughs that are even more powerful than the ones discussed in this website.

No One Dies of Old Age

No one has died of old age – at least no one that I have known. We all die of either an accident or a disease of old age. With age the probability of getting a disease of old age increases.   While a cancer specialist looks for a cure for cancer, there is a strong possibility that the treatment lies in reversing aging itself! Everyone who lives long enough will eventually get one of the diseases of old age. This is about to change!  New therapies that turn back the clock to keep a person youthful and vibrant are here. While we have limited options now, the impact of future technologies will be dramatic.  Therefore, you may want to choose to improve your health so that you don’t die while you are waiting for the next life extension and youthful breakthrough.

To Live – Avoid Dying

Let us examine the different ways people die as they naturally age.

This chart, created by the Centre for Disease Control in the US, shows the causes of mortality by age group.
There are two things to observe:
1. Before the age of 45, the leading cause of death is an unintentional injury. If you want to live a long time, it probably makes sense to avoid getting in vehicle accidents or other unintentional injuries.
2. Between the ages of 35 to 44 and after the age of 45 we see that malignant neoplasms and heart disease become the leading causes of death. What this trend means is that as you come to this age, the consequences of getting older outranks the effects of unintentional injuries. While heart disease and other health consequences are still significant causes of death before 35 they jump after. To prevent these diseases, you want to stay young. Radical youth extension is about how you stay young, active and avoid the aging-induced causes of death.

If you were going to spend money to stay alive and youthful where do would you spend it? Are you buying insurance to give someone money when you die when in fact you could change the odds and be here for them?

Prolonged Youth – What it Means
“Are you putting your money in the right places to live say another twenty or thirty years.“  Since the leading causes of disease (malignant neoplasms and heart disease) are symptoms of aging, what are you doing to avoid them and remain youthful? I am not talking about adding another ten years sitting in an old folks’ home with tubes coming out of your body. I am talking about staying young – enjoy life and doing the things you enjoy.

The technology is literally within range. I believe it’s reasonable to see the first pharmaceuticals being released in the next few years. However, if you die from one of the above chronic illnesses, you won’t be here to enjoy the benefits of youth.

This video featuring David Sinclair (and narrated by Morgan Freeman) describes one supplement, NMN that has rejuvenated mice, and possibly in the future, people.  It is important to note that the price of NMN has dropped significantly.  What wasn’t affordable perhaps five years ago is now quite inexpensive.

What to Do

There are a lot of anti-aging technologies, and each one maintains an aspect of youth. There are a ton of information available.  Articles range from very technical to utter nonsense – like grapefruit juice will make you superman. Even worse, is the fact that the prices and value points on these items can be all over the place.

I hope that you do what I have done. Take the first steps to remain youthful. Change the odds around contracting a severe disease of aging and maintain your youth. This site provides essential information that can help you be youthful on a limited budget – biologically young and active. It also will give you ideas about how to prioritize your spending so that you can do this in a way that is affordable for you. In a future post, we will discuss why your family doctor doesn’t necessarily have the full story in this area and why you need to take personal responsibility.

2010: My Story Begins

This website contains my research into radical youth extension.

Before 2010, I made a lot of poor choices that left me sick and unhealthy. Through necessity, I then learned that the technology to radically extend my youth was here. My research into radical youth extension helped me to regain my health and youth. This website will share that research with you.

Poor Lifestyle
Like many others, the poor lifestyle choices I made culminated around 2010 in a severe chronic viral infection. In a few years, this virus and my poor lifestyle left me barely able to walk more than a few hundred feet. I was going down!
I never thought that the beer, pizza, and the sofa were sending me into a premature grave. The first medical attempt to cure my illness left me with retinal macular degeneration.  On top of everything, I was now looking forward to going partially blind by my fifties. I decided I wanted to live, and not just sit around alive but take life and be vibrant.

There was only one way I could get out. I decided to research how to be healthy and, if possible, reclaim the vibrancy of youth. The discoveries that I made are amazing. This quest for youth has improved my health, and I hope you will find this information helpful so that you can improve your health too. Like many of you, I had to do a lot of this on a budget and based on my limited means.  Radical life extension is not only possible, it’s here now.

What I Learned
I learned three important things: First, aging is the cause of the chronic diseases of old age. I was biologically old. It wasn’t important how I had got there, but I needed to find a way to regain my health. Second, there is a lot of research on how to get young. That knowledge is growing fast. In other words, researchers have made real progress on the quest to get healthier and more youthful. In theory, if we reverse aging, then we also reverse the effects of aging. This path has the potential to end the chronic diseases of old age (cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and others) forever. In my case, I wondered if I could reverse the retinal macular degeneration, obesity and other signs associated with advancing years. Third, conventional medicine had not adopted this research yet. As I went to my appointments, the medical professionals looked to me as a casualty.  When I shared my findings, they skeptically looked at me as being misinformed.

Interestingly, when I started to apply my research, and it started to work, the health professionals noticed the changes also. The retinal macular degeneration disappeared. I remember when my doctor did the final retinal scan and found the results amazing. It was gone! Next, my weight dropped, my health improved and I became more vibrant.  Life regained its meaning.

Now that the virus is gone, being healthy means so much more. A few weeks ago, I went walking through the forest… something I couldn’t have even contemplated a few years ago. Drastic situations require drastic action. The steps I took based on solid research have renewed my health.

Saved by SENS
Conventional medicine failed to bring me to youthful health by itself. My family doctor and specialist didn’t have all the information that I needed. I needed to take these advances and work to regain my health. Science was moving much quicker than I could ever have imagined. It was also moving faster than my doctors.

Early in my illness, I saw a video by Aubrey De Grey, the founder of the SENS (Science for Engineered Negligible Senescence) Foundation.  It made me wonder if the technology to keep youthful and reverse aging was within our grasp. I just needed to figure it out, and I started researching. One of my strengths is being able to go through vast amounts of information and process it. It’s not pretty, and we don’t all have the time to do that.

The reason I established this website, is to help others find out what I discovered. “That age reversal technology already exists and is growing by leaps and bounds.” Now Aubrey is about furthering research around the paradigm of the seven pathways. Eventually, this research will result in pharmaceutical interventions. Nevertheless, I think there are things that we can do now.  I have already done some of these things and I am biologically younger and healthier because of them.

Regain Youth
We are at a golden age where humans have the technology to reverse aging. Although still early, and these technologies will change and evolve. The trick is that we need to survive to the next generation of aging reversal interventions. While many of my friends ask me for advice, I decided to share this information with everyone.

I also want to ensure you are kept up to date as new advances come into place. Now to be certain, I think this information will only be useful until a more powerful set of research comes along. Knowing what to do
I know there is a lot of nonsense and ridiculous material on the Internet that can be hard to sift through. At the same time, there are also real breakthroughs and advanced research.  Mainstream medicine will need time to adopt the findings from anti-aging research.

Several things that have improved my health and reversed my biological age. Science is progressing every day and this site will provide a summary of that latest information. We are working to categorize and present the research in plain English so that you can make informed decisions as new information comes available. Follow this site to find out about new advances and how to take advantage of them. I will also provide updates on our ontology project – a project that aims to capture the terminology of radical life extension used by the research community.
