3 Zombie Cells and Senescence

Zombie or Death Resilient Cells have reached a senescent state they are acting like zombies and mess things up.

What Happens

Increases in numbers of senescent cells in a tissue make that tissue more vulnerable to the spread of cancer, contribute to inflammation, and skew the local activity of the immune system. These zombie cells increase inflammation in the body and that in turn can introduce heart disease, arthritis, and many other types of immune problems that we encounter with age (including an increased autoimmune activity where the immune system essentially turns on your own body).

Fat cells are a significant source of zombie cells that control insulin response. If these are not eliminated or moved out of a zombie state, the result is insulin sensitivity and eventually type 2 diabetes in adults. Insulin resistance needs to be controlled to avoid and potentially reverse metabolic syndrome. I had metabolic syndrome and found that I ate very little and yet continued to get worse.  My weight increased to over 450Lb until I intervened. Weight reduction is an excellent strategy to reduce fat cells. I also personally feel that the ECA stack has some merit in being able to eliminate senescent fat cells – preferentially over other types of cells – on a calorie restrictive diet. Some studies have shown that ECA can stimulate the growth of active brown fat for overall positive health benefits.  There is a body of evidence that has suggested that ECA, when used appropriately, can improve health (Ephedrine was banned in the US. Some people feel that the government was not justified in issuing a US ephedrine ban because they did not thoroughly review the evidence).

What We Can Do

There are several approaches we can take that will reduce the numbers of senescent cells.

First, intermittent fasting and caloric restriction, when accompanied by supplements like R-alpha lipoic acid and possibly metformin, are looking to be extremely useful (I did my fasting with just R-alpha lipoic acid).

Second, the natural sirtuins enhancers such as NMN, NAD, and Pterostilbene are effective in eradicating epigenetic changes.

Third, exercise is beneficial. High-intensity training is most effective, along with weights and traditional cardiovascular. If you start a new program, ease into it and under the advice or supervision of your physician.

Fourth, there are specific supplements that appear to eradicate senescence. Most recently, a combination of Quercetin and Dasatinib have proved useful in removing senescence in mice. While Dasatinib is not a readily prescribed drug, Quercetin, Fisetin, and Gamma-tocopherol, in theory, have a similar action and could help. Some studies already show that these natural substances can potentially remove senescent cells. These natural supplements are relatively harmless when taken periodically.   In short, there is the potential for an exciting breakthrough around the adoption of natural substances to eliminate cellular senescence.

NAD  http://life7.ca/index.php/home/supplements/nad-nicotinamide-riboside/
Pterostilbene  http://life7.ca/index.php/home/supplements/pterostilbene/
Quercetin – the bioactive form is most recommended
Fisetin
Gamma Tocopherol
Piperlongumine

Activities

Intermittent Fasting / Caloric Restriction
Studies recommend HIT training over aerobics ignoring other physical limitations.  Weight lifting and traditional cardio are also good. The key is to work with your physician to select something that works for your current situation.
